| BON VOYAGE
At the April meeting of Calderwood Community Council long-serving Secretary, Kathleen MacLellan, gave notice of her intention to resign the post. ![]() Kathleen, being the lady she is, agreed to be available during the coming month to effect a smooth changeover with the new incumbent. During the course of the meeting Councillor Chris Thompson paid tribute to Kathy' s long and illustrious involvement with Community Councils and Residents Associations. In the absence of John Lowe [Chair] his deputy,Janice Currie, presented Kathleen with a floral basket and a bottle of wine in recognition of her - oft unsung - labours on behalf of Calderwood Community Council. Kathleen was also was an active part of Nerston Residents Association. So, we will not be the only group losing a key member. In closing, and in view of their re-location address, I just could not resist the message: Kathy and Douglas, "Have A Ball!" |
WHAT IT'S 'WHEELIE', 'WHEELIE' LIKE
Attention Calderwood. Although some parts of Calderwood already have the new blue wheelies the 're-cycling' trial is due to expand into Calderwood as a whole. So, from April 26 you will see the new blue 'wheelies' appearing. The first uplift is scheduled for the week beginning May 10. Before this, however, CCC have accepted an offer from South Lanarkshire Council's Community Resources to have their staff attend our meeting and present details regarding how the new initiative will affect us. Lots of 'horror' stories have been circulating with regards to this initiative so, if you are in any doubt you may be well advised to pop along to Calderwood Community Hall on the evening of May 5 when represenatives from South Lanarkshire Council's Community Resource team will be on hand to dispel the rumours and, perhaps, put all the 'myths and fables' to rest! the ultimate aim was to expand into outlying areas, with Calderwood being one.
To this end volunteers are being canvassed in an attempt to guage public opinion and to ascertain the viability of such an endeavour. At time of writing Kenny Douglas was sidelined through injury and will get back to us with more detail. John McKinnon, however, has already expressed his interest in working with the group to attain this objective. Should anyone in the Calderwood area feel that they would like to offer their services, in any capacity, please let us know and we will be only too pleased to pass your details on to Janice or Kenny.
