"We will not be going away"

WE'RE ON OUR WAY!
Though it may seem that we've been in the 'construction stage' for as long as those guys building [sic!] the new 'Parly' you'll be pleased to know that, at last, something concrete can be reported.
Finally, at around half-past four on Sunday, June 15, in the Woodside Halls in Glasgow an election was held and a Management Committee is now in place.
After a vote it was decided that the committee should number 10 - four of whom would be elected to serve as Office Bearers.
It was further [unanimously] agreed that, in relation to the position of Chairperson, a non-survivor should fill this role.
Results of a postal ballot were read and those present proposed, seconded and agreed the following appointments.

OFFICE BEARERS

Chair: Alan Draper + Deputy: Helen Holland
Treasurer: Margaret Finnon + Minutes Secretary: Jim Kane + Secretary: Alex Leighton

Committee Members
Anne Campbell + Karen Coyle + Janet Docherty + Frank Docherty + Elizabeth McWilliams

It was proposed, and accepted, that John Doyle be co-opted [as an Ex-Officio Member] with the remit of Press / Public Relations Officer.
On taking over as 'Chair', Alan Draper proposed that founder member Frank Docherty be named as Honorary President. This was unanimously approved.
Now it's your turn!. Could anyone who has not yet returned Membership Applications please complete and return AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Should you be having any problems regarding this please let us know - we can help.
LET'S GET THE BALL ROLLING
Phase One is now complete. Time to look at Phase II - the setting up of local "self-help" meetings. Anyone , anywhere, requiring help or information regarding this phase please get in touch.
Our research indicates that this concept has found favour with a good number of survivors - for obvious reasons, and, in reality could be most important to the furtherance of our aims.
G'DAY FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA!
Expatriate member, Cath Brown [McManus], a former resident of Nazareth House, Kilmarnock [1945-55] would dearly like to hear from Scottish members and, in particular, would love to hear from, or about, two particular ladies
Cathy Haggerty and Theresa McQuillan
Cath says, however, that she'll look forward to hearing from any interested party - and promises a response! Her address is:
11-45 Fuller Street, Walkerville, South Australia 5081

It should, perhaps, be pointed out that Cath was the inspiration for a soon to be released Australian made documentary - "Unholy Orders".
This 'docco' was co-produced by Geraldine Gandolfo [another survivor] and a 'Scottish Premiere' viewing [for INCAS] is provisionally scheduled for August of this year.
We'll keep you up to speed with location and date.
PAYOUT - USA
"No child should ever have experienced what happened to you. I apologize again for what we did or failed to do that led to your abuse."
The foregoing forms part of a statement issued by Thomas Kelly, Archbishop of the Louisville archdiocese, Kentucky USA.
It came with the announcement that the Roman Catholic Church, in Louisville, have agreed to pay more than £15 Million [$25 Million] to 243 alleged victims of child sex abuse.
This agreement - one of the largest settlements in the abuse scandal which rocked the church in the US - follows two similar agreements [New Hampshire & Boston]made in the last year.
Archbishop Kelly also stated;"I promise we are doing everything possible to prevent child abuse in the church." See full story HERE
"1964 CUT-OFF" RULING
As you know we've been advising that you contact your local MP / MSP regarding this ruling.
Concern has again been voiced, so much so that it has been suggested that a petition to have it overturned be started -immediately.
Now might be a good time to start collecting signatures in your local area!
Remember, if you'd like a hand with the wording - Get in touch!
JUST A THOUGHT
A correspondent, David Whelan, tells us he has e-mailed the Scottish Human Rights Centre regarding the above. This may well prove to be another option. David has promised to keep us informed of any outcome.
REDRESS BOARD
Paddy Doyle has made available some more relevant[as ever] information with regards to this. The information can be read HERE
I make no apology for, again, saying that this should be a 'Must Visit' site and not only for INCAS.
COMING SOON
As you may already know, the domain names : incasurvivors.com and incasurvivors.org have been purchased and registered and we're hoping to go 'Live' with our own web site - very soon.
Part of your web site will be for survivor 'stories'. It would, therefore, be a great help if you could let us know
a) If you have a story you'd like to be aired
b) If you've already given your OK - please confirm this.
c) If you don't think this is a good idea.
HELP A FRIEND.
We realise that not everyone has access to either a computer or the internet. It would be helpful if those of us who have such access could download the information from sites highlighted and send a hard-copy to those who can't.
IT MAKES SENSE, YOU KNOW
Know fellow members who do not have [or have no access to] a PC? Why not get them to take a trip [or arrange to have them taken, or even take them!] to the library - you may well find that from there they can access the Information Superhighway - and get to see THE e-zine FREE!
If that is not an incentive to 'get people moving' - don't know what is ;o)
For the time being please send any 'Snail Mail' to:

INCAS [Media Office]
First Floor 26 Ivanhoe
East Kilbride G74 3NZ.
