"1964 CUT-OFF RULING" - DATE SET FOR APPEAL. Much has been said about this ruling and many requests for information seeking explanation / clarification / confirmation have been made. We are pleased, at last, to provide a little bit of positive information relative to this! Jim Kane, a Scottish member, contacted his local MSP [Karen Gillon] who, in turn, contacted the Minister for Justice - Cathy Jamieson, MSP. In her reply Ms Jamieson indicated that a date - 8th June 2004 - had been set to hear the original appeal against this ruling. She did, however, observe she did not think it advisable to take a view on whether changes to this complex area of law may be needed before a final decicison has been reached and the current law clarified. She will continue to watch how the situation develops. Watch this space! VOLUNTEERS WANTED !!! - Going through the membership list it is apparent that we have a good [and growing] number of members south of the border. To help widen the 'network' and provide 'local telephone support' we wondered if anyone would like to offer their services. 'Volunteers' would agree to having their telephone numbers [and area locations] published on our web site and added to our 'official' notepaper thus providing a 'Local Link'. So, come on Guys & Gals, we wanna hear from you! Together we can make this work! UNHOLY ORDERS - Generally speaking, this documentary was well received and some very positive feedback obtained from our membership. It was accepted, however, that our Management Committee might [on the 'organisational' front] have performed slightly better. Don't worry - we have learned from this, having had our reports marked "Must do better in future". Please note that none of the foregoing applies to either Mr & Mrs Buckley [who performed heroics in the catering area] nor Lynne Robertson of Glasgow Caledonian University! BEEB accused of 'Selectivity' in a recent documentary - The sister of one of our members has gone on record accusing the BBC of twisting her words to defend a paedophile who abused her brother. Full Story Here HELP A FRIEND. - We realise that not everyone has access to either a computer or the internet. It would be helpful if those of us who have such access could download the information from sites highlighted and send a hard-copy to those who can't. NAME THESE CHILDREN - A campaign to have a memorial modified [replaced] to carry the names of the children buried in the Smyllum Park Orphanage cemetery, is featured in Scotland on Sunday [14/09/2003] and may be viewed Here . Campaigners Frank Docherty and Jim Kane who both spent time in the Smyllum Park Home feel, strongly, that such a monument is long overdue.
